Our History

Paulino Lim, then engaged in logging business, had just purchased two bulldozers directly from Japan. He soon realized that there were no available spare parts or companies that offer after sales service for units bought from Japan. Interesting enough, he was not the only one in this difficult situation.

Seeing a business opportunity, Paulino together with friend Bayani Fontanilla and brother Jose Lim , as well as five classmates from Mapua institute of Technology- Anthony Ngo, Felix Tan, Tomas Co Jr., and Raul Ang established CIVIC and began supplying the spare parts requirements and servicing units of Komatsu owners, establishing its first office at Paco, Manila.

From a spare parts supplier, CIVIC soon expanded to sell used construction equipment. But their first big break came in 1982, when Clark Michigan appointed CIVIC as its exclusive distributor in the country, which was followed by Bomag Compaction Equipment and Liebherr Bulldozer the year after.

But while CIVIC bagged numerous business deals and awarded distributorship for several brands of construction equipment, the firm was not satisfied. Its goal- was to be the local exclusive distributor of Komatsu. Their dream finally became a reality in 1988.

In the early 90’s, due to various economic crises, CIVIC had some major changes in it’s organizational structure. With these, CIVIC was driven to revive the company to better version than it was before. It was probably serendipity at that time that Volvo Construction Equipment bought Clark Michigan, and re-appointed CIVIC as exclusive distributor.

Note of By this time, CIVIC finally settled an establishment as headquarters in Quezon City and a service shop and training center located five kilometers away. Setting up of sales offices in the prime provincial areas of Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Davao immediately followed to ensure that Civic can cater to any customer- may it be in Luzon, Visayas or in Mindanao.

In 1996, Civic successfully closed deals with Ingesoll-Rand, Volvo Trucks and Schwing Stetter as the brands’ exclusive distributor in the country. This made CIVIC’s line-up of products formidable, soon realizing success after success.

Today CIVIC is the exclusive distributor of leading names in construction, mining & transport equipment worldwide, including Volvo Construction Equipment and Volvo Trucks of Sweden, and Sany of China, UD Trucks of Japan, Doosan Portable Power and Soosan of Korea, Power Pavers, Bobcat and JLG of USA.

Nearly Fifty Years from its inception, CIVIC has grown from a three-man operation to a corporation of over a thousand people. It has also expanded its area of coverage by adding more branch offices and service points nationwide.

One of the company’s key strength is its commitment to provide Superior Customer Service and it is a commitment backed by a solid track record of excellent client service that has allowed CIVIC to sustain our market share over the last four decades.
